Day One.. a long road north

It’s been a year since our last trip to Napa…  and yes, I’ve forgotten all of those little notes and helpful-hints that I swore I would remember for this years trip.  This hopefully will last until next year to help my rejuvenate my memory when I’m in this position in a year…

We’re driving up from SoCal… no, not the luxurious, ocean-view filled journey up the 101, but good ol’ efficient route 5.   Flat, brown fields everywhere, with sporadic groves of olives.  Bring a blanket cuz if the suns out, it’ll burn your legs right through the window and if you’re riding with a boy (or anyone that likes cold) you’ll be freezing your butt off from the turbo car AC to compensate for that devil sun!

Roll up the windows and hit the recirculate button in the car!!  About an hour north of the grapevine it’s time to be thankful that you’re not driving that convertible that you so coveted while driving the 101.

Quick note:  Harris Ranch.  Great little stop about 2/3 the way up.  It’s actually a “resort”.. well as much of a resort can be along the 5 freeway.  If you love your nose at all, then be prepared.  (keep in mind, once you are in the restaurant or hotel, they have the most wonderful air filters.)  Putrified filth would be a nice way to describe the smell in that area at time, and at other times it just smells like a cow farm.  I’m sending you all good vibes out there that you get the cow farm smell.  This trip up… well, I wasn’t that lucky…
